What Seeds I am Starting in March 2023 Zone 6B

Hey friends, thought I would give a little update on what has been happening in the garden world at Hope and Wildflowers. The weather has been so unpredictable that I am already starting to see buds and blooms before Spring due to our early false Spring. I am starting seeds and keeping them nice and cozy in the little greenhouse.

Dahlias tubers are beginning to wake up, and I can begin to see tiny eyes on more than half of them. I will be sharing a post later on growing dahlias as well as a special promotion for those who enjoy growing Dahlias. Stay tuned!

Ranunculus and Anemones

The Ranunculus and Anemones currently have teeny tiny roots growing and will be put out in the beds soon.

Two New Tests

This is my first year testing out two new growing methods. It is a slow process, but gardening is about patience and learning. The first test this year is learning how to winter sow using water jugs. This was part of one of the contributor classes in Growing Kindness, and I was anxious and thrilled to give it a shot. So far, we have Chamomile, Bells of Ireland, and Pink Dandelion popping up. A very simple way of starting seeds early.

You can hear the rain/snow mix hitting the fabric cloth and jugs.

The Wildflower Patch

The second test is growing our wildflower patch. I am currently testing which native wildflower seeds grow best in our area and soil. Last fall, we sewed a few, and am beginning to see them pop already. However, with the weather, these little seedlings could be affected by any late frost. In that case, early spring sowing is lined up for the bare patches. Our current patch is holding water which at first I thought would be a hiccup, but we have a hopeful solution to try, which is a wet meadow wildflower mix we will be sowing soon in this area from American Meadows. Excited to sow those seeds and see the results as the weather warms up.

March Seeds

As far as March seeds starting below are listed, some of the following that is currently either in soil germinating as we speak or teeny tiny and ready for early spring transplanting.
