Linking Arms with the Growing Kindness Project 2022

I am so honored and humbled to announce I was selected to participate this year as an Ambassador of the Growing Kindness Project. In the upcoming months, I will be sharing updates as I begin this incredible mission to spread kindness in my community and to those who need a little encouragement. I will be linking arms with many wonderful and kindhearted gardeners across 32 states to start planting flowers and sharing them with others.

The mission of Growing Kindness:

“Growing Kindness is a little project with a big heart and a big dream. Our goal? To start a campaign of kindness that starts a ripple of goodwill that reaches across the world.

How? Flowers.

Growing a cut flower garden is easier than you think. All you need is a little bit of dirt and a big heart. We’re here to help you with the rest!

The Growing Kindness Project is working to support thousands, just like you, who want to share kindness by growing and giving flowers.

We provide support, education, and resources to help you both garden and give. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or have never grown a single plant, whether you’re tending a pot of flowers on your city balcony or acres of blooms on a farm, we’re here to help you grow kindness in your community. Join us and let’s get growing in your neighborhood or community!”

As an ambassador, I will be planting Dahlia tubers provided by the Growing Kindness team. Last year I planted my very first Dahlias and I was so impressed and amazed with the entire process of how they grow. What is more incredible about these plants is the tubers they produce when their season is over.

So why Dahlia’s with the Growing Kindness Project?

“If ever there was a flower that was the perfect mascot for the Growing Kindness Project, it is the dahlia. Dahlias come in endless shapes and colors, much the same way as kindness takes on immeasurable forms of expression.

A single dahlia tuber can produce dozens of blooms all summer and then handfuls of new tubers for the next season. In the same way, one small act of kindness has the power to multiply and grow beyond our expectations or understanding.

Dahlia plants are hearty: they quietly hibernate all winter and can easily be divided and shared with your neighbor across the street or your friend across the country; just as kindness can weather all seasons and knows no limits or boundaries.

While the humble dahlia provides blooms and plants to share, it is also a very present symbol of the beautiful power of an act of kindness.” -Growing Kindness

This is what the tubers look like after being dug up and cleaned off.

I am looking forward to this incredible project this year. These past few years have been challenging for many of us as we battle a pandemic, losing loved ones to this nightmare, and as we are currently seeing our brothers and sisters fighting for their lives around the world.
